About Portsmouth as a departure point
Portsmouth is on the south coast in Hampshire, to the east of Southampton. It is a historic naval city, and its port handles ferry services to France, the Channel Islands and elsewhere, alongside a smaller number of cruise calls. That mix means you might be travelling for a cruise holiday, a ferry crossing with foot-passenger tickets, or a long trip abroad with plenty of bags.
The drive from London heads south-west through Surrey and into Hampshire. Journey times depend on traffic and time of day, and routes towards the south coast get busy on summer Fridays and bank holiday weekends. We plan your pickup with a margin so you are not anxious about the clock.
Portsmouth or Southampton?
The two ports are fairly close to each other but they are different places, and it is surprisingly easy to mix them up when booking. Please check your travel documents carefully. If you are sailing from Southampton instead, see our Southampton cruise transfers page.

Travelling as a foot passenger or cruise guest
If you are sailing as a foot passenger on a ferry, check-in usually closes some time before departure, and your ticket will say when. For cruises, the line gives you a check-in time. Either way, share the details with us and we will set a London pickup time that gets you there comfortably.
At the port your chauffeur drops you at the passenger terminal and helps with your luggage. For return journeys, tell us your sailing or crossing and the expected arrival. Our team checks the arrival before your pickup, and your chauffeur meets you at the terminal pickup area. Free waiting time for this port is shown on this page, and our cancellation policy sets out what happens if you need to change plans.
Portsmouth also works well as part of a longer trip. We can drive you on to Gatwick or Heathrow for a flight, or back to a hotel in central London.
