What you can expect

What "as directed" hire means

Most chauffeur journeys are priced from one address to another. Hourly hire works differently. You book a car and driver for a block of time, and within that time the chauffeur goes wherever you ask. There is no need to know every address in advance, and no need to book a new car each time your plans move.

This is often called "as directed" hire in the chauffeur trade. It suits days with several stops, open-ended meetings, or any occasion where you would rather have a car waiting nearby than wonder how you will get to the next place.

A minimum booking length applies, and the hourly rates for each vehicle class are shown on this page from our current prices. When you get a quote, give us a rough outline of the day and an idea of where you expect to go. It helps us plan, and it lets us flag anything that might affect the price, such as a trip well outside London.

Ways clients use hourly hire

Business days with several meetings

Move between offices, hotels and restaurants without watching the clock for taxis. Your chauffeur waits close by and is ready when the meeting finishes, early or late.

Sightseeing and visitors

Show guests the city at your own pace. Stop for photographs, a museum or lunch, and carry on when you are ready. Your chauffeur can suggest practical places to be dropped off near the sights.

Shopping

Visit several shopping streets in one afternoon, leaving purchases in the car between stops rather than carrying them around.

Events and evenings

For a gala, a party or a long dinner, hourly hire means your car is there when you want to leave, not when a pre-booked return happens to arrive. See also our event chauffeur and wedding cars pages.

If you only need to get from one place to another, a single journey with our chauffeur service is usually better value.

On the day, your driver follows your plans and waits nearby between stops.

Hourly hire questions

Is there a minimum number of hours?

Yes. The minimum hire is 3 hours, and hourly rates start at £35 an hour. You see the exact price for your vehicle when you get a quote.

What if I need the car for longer than I booked?

Speak to your chauffeur or our team as soon as you know. Where the driver and vehicle are free, we can usually extend your booking, and we will tell you how the extra time is charged.

Can the hourly booking include a trip outside London?

Yes, but tell us when you book. Longer trips out of the city can affect the price, so we will confirm the details with you in advance.

Will my chauffeur wait outside while I am in a meeting?

Your chauffeur waits as close as it is legal and practical to do so, which in central London may be a short walk away. They will be ready to collect you when you call.

Need a car for the day?

Tell us when you start and roughly how long you need, and we will confirm your hourly hire.
