Safety
Safety, licensing and checking your driver
Getting into a car with someone you have not met should never feel like a leap of faith. Here is how we are licensed, what we tell you before pickup, and how to check you are in the right vehicle.
-
Licensed operator
We hold a private hire operator licence.
-
Licensed drivers and vehicles
Every driver and vehicle must be licensed.
-
Details before pickup
Driver name, licence number and registration.
-
Every journey recorded
A full record of each booking is kept.
Licensing and insurance
Private hire journeys must be booked through a licensed operator. Modenlink Travel holds a private hire operator licence from the licensing authority for each area we serve. Our licence details are shown on this site.
Every chauffeur must hold a valid private hire driver licence, and every vehicle must hold a private hire vehicle licence. Vehicles must carry insurance that covers hire and reward, and be kept roadworthy. We record the expiry date of every licence and document, and our system will not allow a driver or vehicle with an expired document to be assigned to a journey.
As the operator, we keep a record of each booking: when it was made, who took it, the pickup and destination, the agreed fare, which driver and vehicle were assigned and the times of the journey.

What your booking confirmation contains
Once a chauffeur is assigned to your journey, and before your pickup, we send you:
- the driver's first name
- the driver's private hire licence number
- the vehicle registration, plus its make, model and colour
- a photo of the driver, where we are able to send one
If your driver changes, we send you the new details. You will also find them in your booking.
How to check your driver and vehicle
- Check the registration plate matches the one in your confirmation before you open the door.
- Ask the driver who they are collecting. They should know your name without you telling them.
- Licensed drivers carry an identity badge. Check that the badge matches the driver and the details you were sent.
- Licensed vehicles display licence discs or plates issued by the licensing authority.
If anything does not match, do not get in. Contact us straight away using the details on your confirmation. Never get into a vehicle that approaches you on the street offering a ride; private hire vehicles cannot legally pick up passengers who have not pre-booked.

Complaints and lost property
If something has gone wrong, please tell us. Every complaint is recorded, given a reference and followed up by our team until it is resolved. You can raise a complaint through our contact page or by replying to your booking confirmation. Our booking terms explain our complaints process in full.
If you think you have left something in one of our vehicles, contact us as soon as possible with your booking reference, the date of travel and a description of the item. We will check with the chauffeur and the vehicle and let you know. Items that are found are kept safely while we arrange their return.
Safety questions
